Aguanga has no formal subdivisions or gated communities; it is a spread-out, unincorporated community of rural parcels along State Route 371 and the side roads that climb into the hills. The broader area includes the hamlet of Oak Grove to the southeast and scattered ranch properties toward Vail Lake and the Cleveland National Forest. Rather than defined neighborhoods, residents identify with landmarks — Cahuilla Road, the lake, and the mountain wilderness — and with nearby Temecula for schools, services, and daily errands.

Life in Aguanga is intentionally quiet and self-reliant. Many properties are working or hobby ranches, and equestrian activity, gardening, and outdoor recreation are common pastimes. The community has little commercial development, so residents drive to Temecula or Hemet for groceries, dining, and services. Weekend life often centers on Temecula Valley wine tasting, trail riding, or camping at Vail Lake. The trade-off for the rural setting is a longer trip for conveniences, a balance that appeals to those who prioritize space, privacy, and natural surroundings.

Aguanga's students attend Cottonwood Elementary School, a kindergarten-through-eighth-grade campus that is part of the Hemet Unified School District. For high school, students continue within Hemet Unified. Because the community is small and rural, many families also consider charter, private, and homeschool options available in nearby Temecula and Hemet, and some secondary school commutes are a regular part of daily life for residents.

Aguanga sits on State Route 371, also known as Cahuilla Road, which connects north toward Anza and south to State Route 79. From there, drivers reach Temecula and Interstate 15 in roughly 18 miles, linking the community to San Diego and the Inland Empire. Hemet is about 22 miles north via Route 79 and Highway 74. The roads are two-lane and winding through the foothills, so commutes are distance-driven and weather can affect mountain travel. There is no fixed-route transit serving the community.

Aguanga is surrounded by outdoor recreation. Vail Lake Resort offers camping, mountain biking, and open space on hundreds of acres just east of the community, while the Cahuilla Mountain Wilderness provides rugged hiking with views across the region. The Cleveland National Forest and the Palomar Mountain area add trail, camping, and equestrian opportunities within a short drive. Lake Riverside offers fishing and kayaking, and Temecula Valley's wineries, just down Route 371, give residents a well-known wine-country destination close to home.
